I first heard this piece on a recording of the great (Nebraska fiddler) Bob Walters. He called it "Jim Clark's Hornpipe". I later played my version for Wilson Douglas, and he told me the name of the tune was "Fair Morning Hornpipe". He also played a version of this beautiful tune. This may not be factual, but my theory is that as the tune traveled west, teh name might have been lost, and Bob Walters possibly learned it rom a fiddler by the name of Jim Clark. In either case, I like to let the imagination go wild from time to time. After all, the stories--true or fiction--are a great part of the legacy.
