about

The Midwest’s premier fiddler -- Chirps Smith, along with several of Illinois and Missouri's finest old-time players -- presents twenty-six tunes that evoke memories of front-porch music-making on the Illinois prairie and dances held in cabins in the hollers of Little Egypt, all played in a style he calls simply, and modestly, “Midwestern.”

Chirps would like to thank Jeff Miller & Jim Nelson for getting this project off the ground and for playing; thanks also to Curtis Buckhannon, Fred Campeau, and Dave Landreth for their fine musicianship. Thanks to Garry Harrison for all his work and help saving some of Illinois' musicial heritage.

Jim and Jeff would like to thank Carolyn & Jay Henges for letting us briefly transform their basement into a recording studio; thanks also to Cuz, Dave, and especially Fred ("The Boss") for making this a snap. And to Eric for his good ear and all his hard work.
